A lot of y’all have been asking for this event, so we’re hosting another monogamous speed-dating event for all genders who are interested in dating all genders, for folks in their 20’s and 30’s!! And we’re SO excited to be at Trident Books! :D
You would probably have a good time at this event if all of the following are true of you:
- You are aged 20-39 (plus or minus a year-ish is cool, too, and if you’re not in this age range, feel free to check out our other events.
- You are monogamous (polyamorous events are also often available— feel free to check www.skipthesmalltalk.com/calendar!)
- You would enjoy dating someone of any gender (we have other events for folks who only want to date people of a particular gender)
If any of the above statements are NOT true of you, you might want to see if our other events are a better fit. We do our best to accommodate as many different demographics as possible given limited capacity for our speed-dating events, and we are always working to include more! Any suggestions for how we can be more inclusive? Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
This event is trans-inclusive. We do not tolerate transphobia at this or any of our events.
We can only accommodate a limited number of guests at this event, so please plan to grab a ticket as soon as you think you'd like to join us.
If you're not comfortable joining us in person yet, we've still got fun stuff going on that you'll probably be into! Feel free to check out our full calendar, including online events, at www.skipthesmalltalk.com/calendar

Want to get off your dating apps and meet someone in real life, but where you don’t have to find out that every cute person at the party is unavailable? Do you think that IRL speed dating is generally awkward and weird? So do we. That’s why we’re putting a Skip the Small Talk twist on dating.
Skip the Small Talks are usually **NOT** for dating, but so many of y’all asked us for a dating event that we decided to make an exception!
We'll be offering "big talk" conversation prompts to get you started, and we'll have lots of structure to make sure that you actually talk to people and that it's not awkward. Not feeling like answering a particular question? No worries, we'll have plenty to choose from, like, "When are you the happiest?" and, "If you were going to become close friends with me, what would I need to know about you?"
We'll give you ground rules to make sure you feel comfortable and safe sharing as much of yourself as possible while still feeling in complete control of how much you divulge.
There will be food and alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic drinks for sale!
Check-in for this event will begin around 6:45 pm. Please do your best to arrive before 7 pm so we can begin as close to on time as possible.
Skip the Small Talk is dedicated to providing an inclusive, welcoming environment for everyone. Check out our safety policy here: Skip the Small Talk Safety Policy
*Need Accessibility Accommodations?*
Trident Books is wheelchair accessible.
We are happy to offer live ASL upon request. Due the use of one-on-one conversations during the event, we request at least five days' notice to make sure we are able to provide an ASL interpreter for each person who needs them. Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can discuss what we can do for you.
We encourage guests to do what they need to in order to feel as comfortable as possible during the event, like taking breaks, eating, stretching, using fidget tools, leaving early, etc.
While we acknowledge that there is no such thing as a space that is perfectly accessible for everyone, we do what we can to welcome as many people as possible while prioritizing the needs of those who are systematically oppressed. If you have any accessibility needs that we might be able to help with, please reach out to us at [email protected].
We are monitoring COVID rates and our COVID policy is subject to change based on local infection rates. For the safety of our staff and guest, We require that all guests wear a mask at this event, and that all guests show proof of full vaccination in order to participate.
*Want to Support Our BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Guests?*
BIPOC have historically experienced greater systemic barriers to attending events like these than white folks, and we’d like to do our small part to move in the direction of correcting that imbalance. So, we’d like to invite our white supporters to join us in making these events more accessible to BIPOC.
If you have the financial means to support our BIPOC guests, please consider donating any amount to us on Venmo at @Skipthesmalltalk and where it prompts you with, “What’s it for?” Please write, “BIPOC initiative.” Within two days of any donations, we will offer the equivalent number of free BIPOC tickets, which will be accessible during the ticket purchase process as they become available.
*COVID-19 Policy*
Due to local infection rates, this event will be open to those with proof of full vaccination, and a mask will be required. We will unfortunately have to turn away anyone without proof of full vaccination or who is not willing to wear a mask without a refund.
We are monitoring COVID rates and our COVID policy is subject to change based on local guidelines.
*Ready to Skip the Small Talk with us?*
Grab a ticket since entry is on a first come first serve basis and we tend to sell out in advance for these-- once we are out of tickets, we will NOT be able to accommodate folks at the door.
If you want to be the first to hear about our events so you don't miss out on tickets before we sell out, feel free to join the Skip the Small Talk Mailing List
