The epic story of hope and endurance, Life of Pi, has been transformed from the page to the screen and now to the stage, making its North American premiere at American Repertory Theater at Harvard University this December!
Join the play’s acclaimed theatrical adapter Lolita Chakrabarti and director Max Webster for this special preview event and discover the creative secrets behind this modern classic.
Life of Pi, based on the bestselling novel by Yann Martel, is a wondrous story of a sixteen-year-old boy who finds himself shipwrecked and lost at sea with an unexpected crew aboard his lifeboat: an orangutan, a zebra, a hyena and a Royal Bengal tiger by the name of Richard Parker.
With the huge success of the book, selling over fifteen million copies worldwide, it was eventually adapted for the big screen with ten Oscar nominations, directed and produced by Ang Lee in 2012.
Seven years later, Lolita Chakrabarti’s adaptation of Life of Pi premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. Chakrabarti was awarded the Olivier Award for Best New Play, along with many other awards. She has been working side by side with award-winning theater director, Max Webster ever since.
Beyond the beauty of the story, the staging and performance of Life of Pi are simply magical. Seven puppeteers are used to bring the tiger to life during each performance.

Life of Pi opens at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in December 2022.
