The berimbau (/bərɪmˈbaʊ/) is a single-string percussion instrument, a musical bow, from Brazil. Originally from Africa where it received different names, the berimbau was eventually incorporated into the practice of the Afro-Brazilian martial art capoeira. During the Berimbau Class you will learn how to play the berimbau. A professional instructor will explain the essential parts and elements of the instrument, and then will show the most important rhythms that the instrument is used for. Berimbau lesson will cover the basic Afro-Brazilian rhythms. We will welcome any age participant to class regardless of any experience with this musical instrument. An improvised jamming session will culminate the workshop.
You will be provided an instrument if you do not own one. Feel free to bring your berimbau.
This event is proud to be a part of ArtWeek Boston (April 29 - May 8).
