Commonwealth Ballet celebrates the beginnings of careers and relationships with five works in diverse styles.

The performances on March 16 and 17 at the Boston University Dance Theater open with the Boston premiere of Portraiture by emerging choreographer, Rosario Guillen.

This is followed by Psalm 148, Leonard Bernstein's first published work, which he composed as a freshman at Harvard University. The solo dancer will be accompanied by soprano Mara Bonde and pianist Jean Meltaus.

Next on the program is Bernstein's second published work, the Piano Trio, with the dancers accompanied by the Thoreau Piano Trio.

Contemporary choreographer Juliana Utz, artistic director of Turning Key Dance, will premiere Blue Wallpaper, a dance exploring the beginnings of relationships.

The evening will conclude with the opening section of George Balanchine's Serenade. This signature work was Balanchine's first ballet choreographed in the United States for students in his school, students the same ages as those performing with Commonwealth Ballet.
