One of the most fundamental and common questions heard from meditation practitioners is, “What should I be doing when I meditate?” The answer to that question will depend, to a large degree, on which of two factors of mind the meditator wants to cultivate at that time: calm or investigation.
This program will be hosted both in person and online (hybrid). This is the registration page to join Chas DiCapua in person at our Center in Cambridge. (Register here if you prefer to attend online.)
Understanding the function of and how to deepen calm and investigation are crucial skills to cultivate in one’s formal meditation practice. What does each serve? Which one will support my life in this or that way? What is needed now? We will explore the answers to these questions and more during our day of practice together.
This retreat will be supportive for both beginning and more experienced meditators. Our day together will include talks, discussion, sitting and walking meditation and learning from one another. There will be more than the usual time for group discussion so that we can explore the unique circumstances and practice questions from as many people in the group as possible. Everyone is welcome.
Full and partial scholarships are available up to 72 hours before the start of the program.
Chas DiCapua has been practicing mindfulness and Buddhist meditation, primarily in the Theravada school, for over 30 years. In 2003 he was invited to be the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society where he continues to serve in that role. He is interested in how the basic material of our everyday lives, including relationships, can be used as a vehicle for awakening. A graduate of the IMS/Spirit Rock teacher training, Chas teaches retreats at IMS and at various centers and sanghas throughout the country.
