Join us for this intensive workshop program, taught by Meredith Gallogly and presented by Grow Native Massachusetts.
Asters and goldenrods are among our most diverse groups of forbs, and some of the trickiest to identify correctly in the field. They are also a vital source of food for insect pollinators late in the season. Goldenrods in particular are ecological powerhouses, supporting a huge variety of insect life. Meredith will teach us how to recognize and differentiate between common goldenrods, asters, and several other (often composite) flowers that bloom in the fall. Species that look quite similar to the untrained eye can vary a lot in their growth habits and preferred conditions. This program will help you select the ones that will fit best in your landscape.
Meredith Gallogly is the Manager of Programs at Grow Native Massachusetts. She is a skilled botanist, and much of her plant identification knowledge comes from her explorations of metro-Boston area parks and reservations. She holds a B.A. in Biology from Smith College.
This workshop will be conducted entirely in the field at Middlesex Fells Reservation in Medford, MA. A repeat session will be held on Wednesday September 11 from 10:00am to 12:15pm. Enrollment at each session is limited to 15 participants.
