Asperger/Autism Network (AANE) of Watertown will be hosting a Holiday Open House and Art Sale to support local artists with Asperger syndrome. This event will showcase a variety of artwork from the more than 100 members of the organization’s Artist Collaborative. The pieces on display will be offered for sale to the public, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the artists. Visitors are invited to view demonstrations and interact with the artists, while enjoying live music and light refreshments. The Open House will be held at 51 Water Street, Suite 206 in Watertown, MA on Friday, Dec 8, 4–7pm and Saturday, Dec 9, 12–5pm. This is a free event.
“So much that people hear about autism is about deficits and weaknesses, but that's not the whole story by any means,” says Anastasia O’Melveny, one of the show’s featured artists. “With just a little extra understanding and support we can do unique and amazing things.” Members of the Collaborative have had their work displayed in area galleries, as well as art shows at various local and out of state venues.
“This year, we’re expanding the event to include live music, raffles and door prizes. We’re also adding commuter hours on Friday to encourage people to stop by on their way home from work and maybe pick up a holiday gift or two,” explains Nick Gallop, Coordinator of Adult Services for AANE.
The AANE Artist Collaborative provides a forum for artists with Asperger profiles to connect and support one another. The Artist Collaborative includes over 100 artists. For more information visit www.aaneartists.org
