Artist Michael C. Thorpe and Jennifer Swope, David and Roberta Logie Curator of Textiles at the MFA Boston, discuss Barstool Sports, a solo exhibition of Michael C. Thorpe's work. This new collection represents the artist's transition to creating abstract pieces. The figures in the artwork are intentionally disproportionate, with simply drawn faces. The works also feature mixed media, such as crayon on textile, soft sculptures sewn onto the textile pieces, and collages of digital print medium. Despite these changes, each piece retains Thorpe's signature vibrant and colorful compositions, and maintains the creative expressiveness that sets his work apart, and the creative expressiveness that sets him apart.
