We are excited to hold an Artist Talk with Eva Lewis and Meghan Murray in conjunction with their two person exhibition "Rose's Grenadine" on view at our gallery from April 5 to May 19, 2024. Please RSVP at [email protected]
The talk will be moderated by the art historian and MFA Boston Curator, Martina Tanga, PhD.
Lewis and Murray collaborated in the creation of “Rose’s Grenadine” with a focus on the feminine figure in society. This women focused exhibition, challenges the ways in which female-presenting people historically exist in public spaces. The artists integrate the idea of Rose’s Grenadine, a pomegranate-flavored syrup,
through the ways female bodies are traditionally portrayed as sweet and subservient. Lewis and Murray highlight the dissonance between traditional portrayals of girls and young women and how they choose to portray women. Their work acts as a continuation of revolutionary and subversive female painters such as Mary Cassatt and Boston-native Ellen Day Hale, along with modern female film directors such as Sofia Coppola and Greta Gerwig.
