Join us at the Guild of Boston Artists on Saturday, May 18th at 2pm for a very special educational program on the subject of portraiture. During this Artist Talk entitled "Beyond the Likeness," Guild portraitist Mary Minifie will explore the many uses of portraits through the centuries and offer thoughts on how the genre still retains its relevance today, answering the questions: Do we really need a painted portrait when we have such good photography? What takes a painted portrait beyond just a record of likeness to be a valued possession that will be treasured for a long time?
This event will accompany the Guild's Annual Members Juried Exhibition, on view May 4 - June 1. This annual showcase is an invitation to the Guild's members to submit their best work to compete for prestigious awards.
