Artist Reception: Clothes I Like Owned by People I Like at Studio Allston

Studio Allston, a boutique hotel located at 1234 Soldiers Field Road in Boston, announced its inaugural exhibition, Clothes I Like Owned by People I Like. The exhibition features original paintings by Sophie Treppendahl, an artist based in Richmond, Virginia. In this collection, Treppendahl aims to challenge the instinct to create figurative work by temporarily eliminating the human form entirely from her paintings. These life size articles of clothing, which take the form of the figure when worn are left as inert piles of fabric when left in their absence. These items are naturally colored by the artist’s own relationship to the person and their memory. Other times, paintings are inspired by found objects that allow the viewer to imagine their own story for the missing figure.

Treppendahl’s artwork will be featured in the Hallway Gallery at Studio Allston – a gallery that will host rotating shows throughout the year featuring emerging artists from the Boston area and beyond.
