The Guild of Boston Artists will present a memorial retrospective exhibition Creating a Masterpiece: The Artful Life of David P. Curtis at its Newbury Street gallery from June 10 - July 8, 2023.
Join us as we gather to celebrate the extraordinary life and artistic legacy of David P. Curtis (1950-2021), a true master of plein air landscape painting. Creating a Masterpiece: The Artful Life of David P. Curtis will feature a collection of almost 40 paintings, paying homage to a revered artist, cherished educator, devoted father, loving husband, and an influential leader within the vibrant Cape Ann Art community. Through the gathering of David's friends, family, fellow artists, and admirers, we hope to honor his memory by embodying the very spirit of art that he so visibly enjoyed and shared. Celebrate his enduring contributions to the world of plein air painting with this exhibition and accompanying events, detailed below.
"David believed deeply in the importance of New England's numerous art associations. He juried their shows and sat on their boards, bringing his judgement and long experience to the governing of those organizations... He was twice president of the Rockport Art Association and director of the Guild of Boston Artists for six years. He was a member of the North Shore Art Association and participated in their shows and juries as well. He gave a lifetime of service to the art of New England and encouraged others to do the same... We of the Guild of Boston Artists are proud of the life he built, his love of art, and his delight in sharing that excitement." - Guild Member Stapleton Kearns, Dedication of "Living Tradition: The Students of R.H. Ives Gammell"
The Guild of Boston Artists is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:30am-5:30pm. Admission is free and open to the public, no tickets required!
