Learn Traditional Marash Embroidery Technique!
Join Textile Curator Susan Lind-Sinanian at the Armenian Museum for a hands-on workshop (2 classes) to learn the unique tradition of Marash Embroidery! Marash Kordz (handwork of Marash) was a form of embroidery popular among the Armenians of Marash, a city in Cilician Armenia near the Mediterranean Sea. Created by weaving a surface pattern through a lattice framework of two rows, it was originally used for decorating various household textiles, usually furnishings. Although the embroidery is now extinct in Marash due to the Armenian Genocide, it is still practiced by Armenian women throughout the Diaspora.
Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to learn this traditional technique and see beautiful examples in the Museum’s collection!
Classes are August 4th and 11th, 2-4pm.
All materials will be provided. Limit 12 students per class.
