SATURDAY: TOWN DAY
After experiencing the best that Arlington has to offer at Town Day, head over to GARAGE BAND, an After-Party organized by Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture (ArtsArlington.org) and hosted by Arlington Service Station. Bring your dancing shoes to fully enjoy a diverse program of swing, Latin, and Japanese musical traditions performed by master musicians in the town's hippest new open-air venue for the arts - an old-time neighborhood garage covered with polka dots! With:
* ODAIKO NEW ENGLAND - Dynamic ensemble performing and preserving a traditional Japanese form of drumming
* DAN FOX FOXTET - Arlington band leader, educator and captain of the Morningside Music School brings a swing band dedicated to getting folks on the dance floor!
* GRUPO FANTASIA - This panoply of Latin/Caribbean styles is the brainchild of Dominican multi-instrumentalist Angel Wagner, blending styles including merengue, salsa, Latin jazz, cumbia, bachata and vallenato
SUNDAY: CELEBRATE PUBLIC ART
Sept. 15, 3-6 PM, ACAC continues the party with PATHWAYS CELEBRATION in the Arlington Center Cultural District. Enjoy a walking tour with 4 Bike Path public art creators, meeting townwide Transformer Box painters, and live New Orleans-style music in Spy Pond Park by The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble.
ABOUT ACAC PROGRAMS
These celebrations are arranged by the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture (ArtsArlington.org), an umbrella organization for town-related arts and culture activities in Arlington, MA. Live Arts Arlington organizes "pop up" performances in a variety of expressive forms - from music and puppetry to dance and literary readings - in public spaces throughout the town. PATHWAYS is an innovative public art initiative that explores issues that matter to Arlington and enhance the Town's community connections. ACAC publishes a free comprehensive online cultural calendar, map, and artist support resource at ArtsArlington.org.
