Annie and the Fur Trappers are a traditional jazz ensemble featuring trumpet, clarinet, banjo, bass, and washboard. They play lively and danceable arrangements of songs from the 1920s. The band has performed all over the country and released their new album, "Remember the Charleston" this past December. Bring your dancing shoes and a friend to this exciting performance!
Registration is not required but the limited amount of seating is first come, first served. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Rabb Lecture Hall.
Anne Linders is the fearless leader of Annie and the Fur Trappers. She was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, where her love of traditional jazz was born. Annie is now a resident of Somerville, and plays music full time. She also teaches trumpet, guitar, and piano. When Annie is not shredding on the trumpet, she enjoys playing hardcourt bicycle polo in Boston. Annie is committed to keeping the music of the roaring 1920s alive in the roaring 2020s!
Matthew Berlin plays the tallest instrument in the band: the bass. Earning the nickname "Boogie Down Berlin", he holds down the groove and bass lines with Annie and the Fur Trappers. Not only is Matthew Berlin a grade A trad jazz player, he is also a renown folk player who has performed and recorded with Jim Kweskin. Matthew brings the second line and the boogie to the band. He is sure to get your crowd dancing!
Dave MacMillan has been on the New England music scene for several decades. Also a bandleader of the Dixie Cookbook, Dave has been cooking up a lifetime of traditional jazz music. He brings that special banjo spunk that drives the band! When Dave is not playing banjo, he is usually going on 70 mile bike rides.
Craig Ball is a living clarinet legend. He is the bandleader of the White Heat Swing Orchestra, who has backed up the likes of Ice Cube and Cab Calloway. Craig brings the humor and absolute swinging licks to the band. His clarinet playing is nothing short of on fire!
Every trad jazz band needs a washboard player, and Rob Rudin is the finest in the Boston area. Specializing in wash cycles, rubber chickens, washboard ties, and even drum kit, Rob is the percussionist extraordinaire. After spending a several month residency in New Orleans, Rob has mastered the traditional jazz NOLA sound! He also plays with the Busted Jug Band out of Boston, MA.
Boston Public Library's Concerts in the Courtyard Series is sponsored by Bank of America.
