Ancient Practice for New Athletes: How yoga can help new runners prevent injury and promote healthy habits.
***A Zoom invitation email will go out to pre-registered students 1 hour before the class, and again 15 minutes before the class begins. Please make sure we have the correct email address on file for you so you receive your invitation! Contact the studio at 617.661.6565 with any questions.***
This 90-minute workshop will include two mini-yoga classes: one made to get you ready for your run, and one to serve as a post-run or workout recovery. You will also be emailed a recording of Kristina guiding you through both of these classes so you can replay them whenever you want! Between these two running-inspired yoga classes, Kristina will discuss the physiology of running, some common problems new runners often face, and which poses can help target particularly troublesome areas. She'll also be discussing stretching and rolling techniques and offering up some household items you can use to help work out sore muscles.
From Kristina Grinovich:
"If you're like me, you may have been inspired to start a new workout regimin. Since this quarantine, I've been trying to get some Vitamin D and stay relatively active by running. I have never been a runner, and never had a desire to run until now. Coincidentally, I felt that same panic lacing up my sneakers for that first time as when I first rolled out my yoga mat 15 years ago. However, these are the times to try something new and I wanted to move my body and see what my marathon-loving friends get so excited about! So, I began running. It started as one mile, and every day I added a little bit more. Like a dedicated yoga practice, I run more days than I don't, and as challenging as it is to start, I never regret any run or yoga class I've done. As a new runner, I've found that practicing yoga has been essential to my post-run recovery, and it's made my next outings a bit easier physically and mentally.
Along with teaching yoga and cycling, I am currently in school studying to become a Physical Therapist Assistant, and am excited and honored to use my knowledge of anatomy and physiology to help enhance your yoga and running practices!"
