These are our recommendations for spending an afternoon in Coolidge Corner, an eccentric Brookline neighborhood located right on the Green Line:
1) Hot chocolate & something sweet from L.A. Burdick
The chocolate company, known for their famous hot chocolate and signature chocolate mice, just opened its newest location in Brookline. It features an array of pastries and drinks as well as table service to compliment the counter service and retail shop.
Handmade Chocolates
Indulge in our masterfully crafted collection of chocolate: from elegant bonbons to single-origin bars and our signature Chocolate Mice. Each confection is thoughtfully created to enchant even the most sophisticated chocolate connoisseur, combining classic techniques with inspired flavors.
Artisan Pastries
Escape to our European-style café, where classic and contemporary pastries await. Full cakes are available, as well as slices of all of our signatures, from our traditional Engadiner Nusstorte to our innovative and beloved Earl Grey Mousse Cake. Burdick Cookies, croissants, and a selection of other pastries are also available to pair with your hot chocolate or coffee.
Specialty Drinks
Savor our signature drinking chocolates, from rich dark to velvety white, alongside exceptional Mariage Frères teas and freshly roasted Devoción coffee.
2) Coffee and Babka from Bakey
Bakey has 4 locations in the Greater Boston area, but this bakery is a Coolidge Corner staple.
Babka is a sweet braided bread which originated in the Jewish communities of Europe. Our mission is to bring our love of this gooey delicious baked good to our own community in Boston. Stop by one of our locations for a Ridiculously Fresh babka, straight out of the oven.
3) Visit Brookline Booksmith
Brookline Booksmith, thriving in the heart of Coolidge Corner in Brookline, Massachusetts, since 1961, is one of New England’s premier independent bookstores. We offer a vast selection of books, ranging from current bestsellers to the most eclectic titles. We are also known for our beautiful and inspired gifts. Customers buy and sell gently used books in our treasured Used Book Cellar and enjoy our bountiful bargain book selection. We host award-winning events series (including our groundbreaking Transnational Literature Series), offering more than 300 author talks, community conversations, and book clubs annually.
This bookshop also hosts one of the most unique book clubs in Boston!
4) Shop at the Boston General Store
Boston General Store was created as a tribute to our founder’s Nanna, who had a passion for all things well made and a dedication to using and reusing things as long as humanly possible. We were founded on the principle that not everything has to be disposable and that high-quality goods built to last a lifetime still exist. In the spirit of Nanna, we aim to purvey functional products crafted by makers from around the world who share that same dedication for moving past our generation of disposability. Just as traditional general stores of years past did, we hope to develop a deep connection with the communities we serve.
5) Maruichi Japanese Food & Deli
This grocery store offers a large selection of produce, prepared foods, snacks, and other Japanese products. It also has some of the best matcha in the Boston area!
