Pre-Release Wine Tasting Event: American Nouveau Wine 2023 Tasting with Marzae Wines
Come celebrate the release of American Nouveau Wine on Saturday November 18 at Bonde Fine Wine Shop from 12pm to 3pm!
You will be the first to taste these three wines from Marzae Wines, the Boston area’s newest winery. Marzae Wines makes wine from eco-responsible fruit from the Northeast, and is vinified with minimal intervention. It’s headed by the young and talented Natural wine winemaker Eliot Martin. This release will mark his and Marzae Wines’ very first vintage.
Marzae is having an official release party the weekend of November 24th, so our event is a pre-tasting before the official release! He will be sampling for you his three marginal, eccentric, unconventional wines, all of which are American Nouveau wines, meaning that they are just released from the 2023 vintage. You can learn more about these wines on the Marzae Wines website here.
What is America Nouveau Wine?
America Nouveau is in opposition to the heavily marketed Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais Nouveau day is celebrated on the third Thursday of November and marks the day when the winemakers of Beaujolais in France can release their 2023 vintages. Originally it was a celebration of the small and the local, and now the irony is that over the last few decades, the day has turned into a worldwide frenzy, resulting in the production of millions of bottles of highly industrialized wine that is air-shipped all over the world in time for this over-commercialized celebration. You can read more about the history of Beaujolais Nouveau, and why it’s an ecological disaster, on our blog here.
At Bonde, we focus on eco-responsible American wines made from small, author winemakers, and as such we are starting the movement of American Nouveau Wine. The American Nouveau Wine movement is the antithesis to everything that Beaujolais Nouveau has become. An American Nouveau wine is made from domestic wineries with grapes that have been grown with respect for the fruit, the land, and the people who tend it, and has been vinified at a human scale with integrity, without the use of industrial chemicals or mechanical processes. We celebrate and promote winemakers like Eliot Martin, who are keeping the true spirit of Nouveau wine alive, and are honored to host him for the first inaugural America Nouveau celebration at Bonde.
