Fiore's Italian Bakery in JP is hosting a pop-up dinner on their beautiful, hidden back patio, by/for a family of local asylum seekers and culinary wizards from Mazar-i-Sharif, northern Afghanistan. Seats are limited; email [email protected] to reserve by donation. Suggested donation: $25-40 per person.
For those new to Afghan cuisine, it has much in common with Persian cuisine, with basmati rice at the center of most meals. It shares flavors and ingredients with Indian food, but has much more sweetness and less spice; lots of cardamom and cilantro, and only light touches of heat.
