Cited by Yoga Journal as “one of yoga’s most compelling and distinctive voices,” Barbara Benagh’s way of practicing yoga asana has evolved into an inquiry that draws attention more to the path than the destination. She has also slowed the practice way down, allowing for a flow that offers an opportunity to dwell in the potent sensation of action, reaction, and adaptability in an increasingly nuanced way.
Barbara's style is unhurried, alignment-based and rich with story. Her voice and cues carry students into the deep currents of movement that ripple through the whole body on the rhythm of breathing and the echo of the body’s memory of its aquatic origins in the sea.

Forest Dwelling: Yoga for the Aging Body Mind
Sunday, September 13
1:15–4:15pm
Everyone ages. In the Yoga tradition aging is one of the 4 stages of one’s life – student, householder, forest dweller, and renunciate. As students we learn life skills, as householders we grow family and career. With those obligations tended to comes a precious time; that of the Forest Dweller. It is the time in which we consciously give ourselves more time and space; space to appreciate the wisdom of slowing down, reading those books that have been waiting for you, or growing the garden you never had time for. It is a vibrant, even liberating, stage of life and a time to keep your eyes wide open as you tread the forest path.
Even as the mind sees more, the body continues to reveal the effects of having lived a life. Hatha Yoga can be a strategic tool for creating strategies for an asana, breathing and meditation practice that is adaptive as well as therapeutic.
Barbara has navigated a Hatha Yoga practice for over 45 years. Now nearing 71, she will use her experience to guide the group to experience the joy of Forest Dwelling.
