Gateway Arts is proud to present "A Taste of Gateway Online Preview Part One," the first in a series of four online exhibitions organized by Artistic Director Stephen DeFronzo, as preview to the forthcoming "A Taste Of Gateway Special Exhibition" in The Gateway Gallery.
This group exhibition features the work of artists who work in the studios of Gateway Arts, a studio art center for individuals with disabilities. The works vary in medium, style, and subject matter, ranging from careful observation, to exuberant abstraction, to cartooning, in painting, drawing, mixed media wood sculpture, and collage. Works were donated by the artists for A Taste of Gateway, the studio art center’s annual fundraiser, for an art swap which will be viewable by the general public, and eligible to attendees who have purchased an art ticket to the event, slated for September 12, 2020. The online exhibition serves as an opportunity for close looking at the works available for the art swap, typically not revealed to the public until shortly before the event. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this online exhibition celebrates self-expression, abilities advocacy, and solidarity as an art center, while simultaneously upholding the individuality of each artist.
The works chosen for this exhibition were culled from the Art Making, Folk Art, and Paper Studios, as well as Studio A, where artists work in a variety of media.
The first in a series of four online exhibitions while the Art Center is temporarily closed, the second in this series will open April 17.
