Regarding our Sanders Theatre performances on Saturday, March 14: Harvard University has closed all its public facilities thru April 30. As with other events scheduled for Sanders this week, we are moving the concerts to another venue, in this case The Wilbur Theatre in downtown Boston. Please note, both the 3PM and 7:30PM concerts have been combined into one concert at 4PM on Saturday, 3/14 at The Wilbur at 246 Tremont St in Boston. The new venue is a different size and layout than Sanders Theatre, therefore seating will be GENERAL ADMISSION AND WE REGRET, MUST BE ON A FIRST COME BASIS. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 3PM AT THE WILBUR. We understand many of our patrons would prefer assigned seating. However, this change came at extremely short notice and we were unable to accomplish assigned seating. PLEASE NOTE: The Wilbur does not have elevator access to Mezzanine or Balcony levels. There are 30 steps to the Mezzanine and 60 to the Balcony. For any accessibility needs, please call The Wilbur directly 617-248-9700.
Regarding coronavirus concerns: We are actively monitoring the situation, and following the guidance and recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Based on those current recommendations, all other St. Patrick's Day Celtic Sojourn performances will take place as scheduled. We will continue to monitor and reassess the situation and issue updates as relevant information becomes available. We urge everyone to follow CDC and other health organization recommendations for protecting yourself during this flu season.
WGBH presents its annual A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn with Brian O’Donovan in five venues this year with six concerts total. As with A Christmas Celtic Sojourn, the tour will begin at Rockport’s Shalin Liu Performance Center on March 11, back to Worcester’s Hanover Theatre for the first time in years on March 12, continuing to Northampton’s Academy of Music for the very first time on March 13, then our annual shows at the Sanders Theatre in Cambridge on March 14, and concluding in Beverly at The Cabot Theatre on Sunday, March 15.
Since 2005, A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn has introduced a wide range of new and familiar musicians alike to audiences eager to celebrate the holiday in the true Irish style. This year’s cast showcases exquisite musicianship from groups and individuals representing the wide range of approaches to Irish music. The Murphy Beds (Jefferson Hamer and Dublin’s Eamon O’Leary), Co. Kerry’s Clare Horgan, the twin fiddling of Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen, accordion player Chris Stephens, uilleann piper Torrin Ryan, dancer Kevin McCormack, choreographer/dancer Ashley Smith- Wallace, and of course Music Director Keith Murphy.
For over three decades, local, regional, and national broadcasts of Brian O’Donovan’s radio program A Celtic Sojourn have proven extraordinarily popular. This concert follows the established format of the long-running A Christmas Celtic Sojourn production, which played to over 14,000 people in Boston, Worcester, Rockport, and Providence in December.
