A Far Cry presents Music for the Temple: a program inspired by spirals, imagination, and prolific women ahead of their time. Centered around themes of spirituality, evolution, and the interconnectedness of the universe, this program draws inspiration from the work of turn of the 20th-century Swedish abstract artist, Hilma af Klint, whose interest in mysticism and regular participation in seances led to the creation of 193 paintings known as “Paintings for the Temple”– works she imagined, and in some ways predicted, would one day be displayed in a spiral temple.
Chamber Music Program:
Jessie Montgomery | Rhapsody No. 2 for Solo Violin
Caroline Shaw | In Manus Tuas for Solo Cello
Nicole Mitchell | Inescapable Spiral
Kaija Saariaho | Cloud Trio for Violin, Viola, and Violoncello
Reena Esmail | Teen Murti for String Quartet and Cello Solo
Jennifer Higdon | Quiet Art for String Octet
