Join The Philanthropy Connection, a women's collective giving organization, for “Rowing as a Vehicle for Systemic Change”, a discussion centered around the documentary "A Most Beautiful Thing". This award winning film based on the best selling memoir by Arshay Cooper chronicles the first African American high school rowing team in this country (made up of young men, many of whom were in rival gangs from the West Side of Chicago), all coming together to row in the same boat.
Prior to the event, please watch “A Most Beautiful Thing,” streaming on various platforms. We will gather on Zoom to hear from Arshay Cooper, Captain of the high school team featured in the film, and Ted Benford, Executive Director of Community Rowing Inc. Come away with a deeper understanding of how a sport can promote systemic change and with questions about the role of philanthropy in supporting efforts like this.
