Relive the night that launched the American Revolution! The Old North Foundation of Boston will host its 243rd annual Lantern Ceremony at the Old North Church in Boston’s North End. The ceremony will take place April 15, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. The Lantern Ceremony celebrates the events of the night of April 18, 1775, when two signal lanterns were hung in the Old North Church steeple, alerting Paul Revere that the British were invading by sea and launching the American Revolution. This year’s ceremony recognizes Dr. Danielle Allen, political theorist, James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, and Director of Harvard’s Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics. The evening will include colonial militia, re-enactors and speakers. Guests will hear Paul Revere’s personal account of the day, a reading of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s “Paul Revere’s Ride,” and see a reenactment of the hanging of the two lanterns.
