After what we hope will be a joyous holiday season for you and yours, want something to look forward to in the dead of New England winter? Be part of an extremely rare ‘astronomical jazz event’! The planets that will be in alignment only on Sunday January 28th when the 19-piece Compaq Big Band makes their debut at the wonderful Town of Norwood Winter Concert Series are: a) We’ll have Ed Scheer from Boston’s ‘The Love Dogs’ as our vocalist, b) It’s in a gorgeous 850-seat theater, and c) Admission is *** FREE ***
The show is a matinee – 2:00pm-4:00pm. The location is the impressive Paul M. Alberta Performing Arts Center at Norwood High School. That is located at 245 Nichols Street in Norwood, Massachusetts.
Doors Open 1:30pm - all seating is General Admission.
The program will be a varied mix of exciting instrumentals and vocals – many you will recognize as big band standards, plus some that will be refreshing, fun twists on classic jazz titles. There will be selections from the big bands of Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Kubis, Gordon Goodwin, and Chris Walden. And, Ed Scheer will be croonin’ out classic Sinatra hits arranged for ‘Ol’ Blue Eyes’ by the masters of that trade, a little somethin’ from Bobby Darin, a few updated standards as performed by Michael Buble, AND a few custom arrangements of hits by ‘The Love Dogs’ done by the band’s own Scott Tringali.
This seasonal series is presented by the Norwood Concerts on the Common Committee. The band has been privileged to be selected by them to appear at their hugely popular outdoor summer concert series in downtown Norwood.
