One of *THE* highlights of the Compaq Big Band’s Summer 2021 season was in August when we supercharged our usually great annual concert in Gloucester, MA by showcasing the “Cape Ann Jazz Divas”! Which would be three of the band’s stunningly talented jazz vocalists that by sheer coincidence were born, raised, and currently reside, on Cape Ann: Renee Dupuis, Marina Evans, and Alexandra Grace Music! Well, why mess with success? They’re BAAAACK with us on Sunday August 14th at the 2022 Antonio F. Gentile Bandstand Summer Concert Series at Stage Fort Park, overlooking spectacular Gloucester Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean.

The show runs 7:00pm-8:30pm. It’s a FREE public event – just bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. The bandstand is located at 24 Hough Avenue and has plenty of free parking. We’ve had magical nights on this stage over the years, with some audiences numbering up to 1,000, and many saving their ‘real estate’ beginning late-afternoon.

This performance is weather permitting. However, in the event of rain, the alternate date is Wednesday August 17th at the same location and time. If it rains both Sunday and Wednesday, there is no alternate date scheduled.

Marina, Renee, and Alexandra will all be performing solo jazz and swing charts as recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Schuur, Natalie Cole, Peggy Lee, Queen Latifah, Tierney Sutton and more! PLUS, we’ve got some authentic Andrews Sisters trio arrangements that are sure to bring down the house again!

As is the case whenever they perform, the Compaq Big Band will be featuring a complete, honest, REAL big band configuration of 18 instrumentalists (17 is THE modern big band standard) – no compromises.

And as is also the case wherever they go, the band will be bringing their state-of-the-art traveling sound system and professional mixing technician. Listeners will love the clarity of the sound throughout the venue, as well as the band’s absolute passion for professional technical support details.

In the last few decades, the Compaq Big Band has risen to prominence throughout New England as one of the most accomplished full-size big bands in the region, featuring a cookin’ rhythm section and 14 horns that achieve an ultra-tight sound, with terrific instrumental soloists. To complement this high-powered ensemble, they showcase a rotation of talented jazz vocalists, carry a comprehensive, modern sound reinforcement infrastructure and experienced, full-time sound engineer, and are ultra-focused on unmatched big band production quality.

The Compaq Big Band’s ‘book’ is one of the best in the Northeast. While they’re faithful to traditional Swing Era classics, they really dig their chops into challenging swing and jazz arrangements played by the most approachable yet progressive big bands of the last four decades. They’re busy year-round, performing at commercial/nonprofit/collegiate swing dances, as well as fundraisers, celebrations, theaters, jazz clubs, multi-jazz band nights at area high schools, arts festivals, outdoor summer concerts, and more.
