All are invited to Haley House’s annual block party and fundraiser on Saturday June 1st, 4-7 pm, outside our South End Soup Kitchen. All proceeds from this event will support the essential services offered by Haley House to those most in need in our community and the upcoming relaunch of our Roxbury social enterprise cafe. Along with delicious food and beverage offerings and a robust silent auction, there will be a variety of fun activities for children, music, and dancing at this family-friendly, neighborhood event. New this year, friends of Haley House are encouraged to check out an online portion of our silent auction (featuring fabulous works of art by artists including Destiny Palmer, Vincent Crotty, Ali Clift, and Arnie Casavant). Bidders for these pieces of art do not need to be present to win. Further details can be found at haleyhouse.org/blockparty!
Guest performers include DJ Chris Grant and dance performances by Lil’ Phunk, 4 Star Dance Studio, South End Dynamite, and more! Thanks to Eastern Bank, Goodwin Procter, LLP, The Boston Foundation, Shawmut Design & Construction, Klein Hornig, LLP, Dolan & Maloney Insurance Agency, Goulston & Storrs, Hingham Institution for Savings, D’s Electric, and the City of Boston for their support of this event.
The tables will be teeming with auction prizes up for bid including restaurant gift certificates (Metropolis, Picco, The Beehive, Flour Bakery + Cafe, Delux Cafe), museum passes, theater tickets from ArtsEmerson & Lyric Stage Company, yoga classes, a Revere Hotel stay, and much, much more.
This year, our friends at Harpoon Brewery, Martignetti’s, and Wine Emporium will offer an assortment of drinks. Beer and wine tasting tickets will be available for purchase at the event ($10 suggested donation includes sampling of beer or wine). Non-alcoholic punch and juices provided by MEM Tea will also be available and Haley House Bakery Café, Kava Neo-Taverna, JP Licks, FOMU, Siegel Eggs, Iggy’s Bread, and Union Park Pizza are providing food.
Haley House uses food with purpose and the power of community to break down barriers between people, empower individuals, and strengthen neighborhoods. We believe in radical solutions: solving problems at their root by challenging attitudes that perpetuate suffering and building alternative models. Founded as a “house of hospitality” in 1966, today our work falls into 5 interconnected categories: direct services (soup kitchen, meals for elders, food pantry), permanent affordable housing (110+ units in scattered South End sites), urban agriculture (a school yard plot in the South End, an urban farm in Roxbury), education and training (Take Back the Kitchen cooking classes for youth and training for people leaving incarceration), and social enterprise (catering & wholesale at HH Bakery Cafe).
