September is here, my Boston friends. As summer begins to draw to a close and we welcome the beginning of fall at the end of the month, there’s still plenty of chances to embrace the summer sun at outdoor music and dance festivals, markets, community events, and more. Here’s your guide to all of the best things happening this month with 100 things to do for $10 or less!

1) Annual San Gennaro Feast in North End

Info: Stop by this Italian Feast in the North End to kick off the month of September! With more than 24 vendors featuring North End restaurants, a big procession, an outdoor mass, and live entertainment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Immerse yourself in Boston’s very own lively Little Italy.


2) Colby Farm Sunflower Field 2024 Bloom

When: Sun. 9/1 - Sun. 9/22

Where: Newbury

Cost: Free admission, $10 parking fee

Info: Get lost in a field of stunning sunflowers at this New England farm. It’s worth the drive, so you can feel one with nature, get great pics with family and friends, and soak in the summer sun as you marvel at the hundreds of blooms that were planted!


3) Allston Christmas

When: Sun. 9/1 

Where: Allston

Cost: Free

Info: It’s the infamous Boston move-in day where the entire city seems to be driving (and Storrow-ing) on the roads, carrying boxes out of their U-hauls, and climbing flights of stairs. Luckily, that means a lot of people are leaving free (and sometimes, great quality) furniture, appliances, knick-knacks, and more. Find your next treasure, but make sure to sanitize whatever you touch! Then, check out the ‘Allston Christmas’ Party at the Silhouette Lounge for $1 hot dogs and festive drinks.


4) Spectacular Pollinators on Spectacle Island

Where: Harbor Islands

Info: Have you always wanted to explore the Boston Harbor Islands? Now is your chance! Grab a free ticket which includes your ferry ride to and from Spectacle Island. Once you’re there, enjoy a picnic, hike with a ranger, take a dip in the harbor, craft, and more!


5) Tomato Fest at Wilson Farm

6) Summer Send Off Pride Market

Info: Support local queer artists and find your next gift for someone special (you’re special too!). Grab a bite and sip on a drink as you shop from over a dozen creatives.


7) Seaport Summer Market

When: Every Sat. & Sun, starting 9/1 until 9/22

Info: It’s the last month of the Seaport Summer Market. Enjoy some pop-up food vendors (we highly recommend the grilled cheese food truck) and grab a drink as you listen to some DJ beats. You can play games and lounge around too as you take breaks between shopping from local artists.


8) Country Fair at Cider Hill Farm

When: Sun. 9/1 - Mon. 9/2 

Where: Amesbury

Cost: Free

Info: Spend your Labor Day at this local-favorite farm to welcome the season’s harvest. Pick some summer apples, sip on some hard cider, munch on classic fair foods, cut some flowers, and listen to live music. There’s an endless amount of fun at Cider Hill’s fair.


9) Gilman Square Pop-Up Park

When: Sun. 9/1 - Sun. 9/8 

Where: Somerville

Cost: Free

Info: It’s the final week of the pop-up park in Somerville. Stop by for a free writing session, a marketplace, an LGBTQ+ improv show, a beer garden, and so much more as you meet local neighbors and say goodbye to this community project. 


10) Labor Day: Free Admission to ICA Boston

Info: Take in sweeping views of the waterfront after wandering through the contemporary galleries at the ICA. You’ll be swept away by the artists’ imagination and feel inspired.


11) Charles River Speedway’s LDW Block Party

Info: Bring your friends and family to this party that’s all about saying goodbye to summer. Enjoy pop-up archery, a cocktail bar, live music performances, face painting, and so much more. Plus, munch on a variety of options at the Speedway that will keep your tummy happy and full.


12) Paramount+ Movie Nights at Seaport

Info: It’s the last month of these outdoor flicks. Bring a beach chair or a blanket, get cozy, and watch some exciting movies. There’s also a variety of pop-up concessions from alcoholic bevs and mochi donuts to churros and Afro-Caribbean food.


13) 20’s/30’s Labor Day Picnic

Where: The Esplanade

Info: Meet some new friends at this event on your day off. Bring your favorite snacks (it’s a plus if they are shareable) and head to the Esplanade where you can enjoy your lunch with new folks from the city. 


14) Coolidge @ The Speedway: Napoleon Dynamite

Info: The Coolidge Theater is hosting outdoor flick nights at The Speedway. After you grab a bite to eat and a brew from Notch, get cozy on the patio and laugh out loud at this month’s feature: ‘Napoleon Dynamite.’


15) Hooks and Books

Info: Get crafty and meet some new friends at this event where you can bring a fiber art project or read a book. Trident has a quaint space where you’ll feel perfectly cozy, so you can focus on your next masterpiece. And if you’re a beginner, don’t fret since there will be some starter kits available for purchase too.


16) Fitness Classes at South Standard

When: Every Wed., starting 9/4 until 9/25

Info: Bring your mat and a friend while enjoying free fitness classes led by Down Under instructors. Take a break and stretch as you soak in the sun. It’s the final month to catch a class before it gets too chilly. 


17) Cambridge Rollerama Summer 2024

When: Every Wed. to Sun., starting 9/4 until 9/29

Where: Southie

Info: Put on your skates (you can rent them for free) and take a few laps around the colorful rink. You’ll feel groovy and you can take a break at The Rink Beer & Wine Garden. Meet some new friends and enjoy skating lessons too. This is the last month for this pop-up roller skating rink. 


18) Free First Thursday at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Info: Snag a ticket to this beloved Boston staple, so you can marvel at the gorgeous European courtyard and wander through the stunning galleries at this old home. You can also line up and see if there are any tickets on site at 3PM!

Info: Make sure to block out a Thursday this month to catch a Thursday on the Lawn at the historic and beautiful Loring Greenough House. Info: Italian Feast season hasn’t stopped! You’ve still got a chance to catch one, but this time, across the river. Info: Walk along part of the Freedom Trail in Charlestown as you get inspired by the talent of local painters, photographers, sculptors, and other artists. There will be jewelry, handmade goods, and more – perfect for you or a loved one.


28) 12th JP Music Festival

Info: 20+ bands and 8+ food trucks. Need I say more? There’s a whole lot of live music to enjoy at this annual festival where you’ll dance and laugh. Your furry friends are welcome, so this is the perfect way to spend a summer day.


29) ‘Legally Blonde’ Screening at Trident

Info: Bend and snap all the way to Trident for the perfect back-to-school event. Watch a 2000’s classic for free and grab a themed drink if you’re feeling fancy. It’ll be a great time with the iconic Elle Woods, so come dressed in pink too.

34) 10th Annual Evolution of Hip Hop Festival

Info: Learn about the history of hip hop and jam out to some of our local talent from rappers, singers, and spoken word poets to dancers and visual artists. There will be a pop-up art market, a vintage car show, and plenty of opportunities to take photos and dance!


35) Golden Age of Silent Movies at the Boston Athenaeum

Info: Come celebrate Afro-Latino heritage at this outdoor festival that’s all about honoring music and dancing. Learn how to salsa and bomba with complimentary lessons, listen to a live salsa and jazz performance, and so much more. There will be games, community connection, and a whole lot of outdoor fun. 


54) Massive Thrift Market: Fall Vintage Clothing Pop-Up

Info: One of the biggest vintage markets in Massachusetts will be hosted in Boston. With over 80 vendors and some pop-up food trucks on site, you’ll get lost the whole day as you adventure through the many stalls to find your next treasure.
