Lily, a film by first-time director Matt Creed, is loosely based on the real-life experiences of co-writer and lead actress Amy Grantham. Intensely beautiful, Lily wanders the atmospheric New York City street as she reevaluates her relationship with her older boyfriend and her feelings about her long-absent father. Lily is an immersion into a rarely seen side of a cancer survivor's story, what life is like after treatment.
Matt Creed is a New York City-based artist and filmmaker. Creed spent his childhood in transit moving from Toronto to Ohio then Los Angeles, and eventually New York. With no formal film training, Creed's approach to film is that of the silent observer, watching and recording. His first feature—Lily—premiered in competition at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and has gone on to play at Nantucket, Deauville, and Montreal among many others. He is currently working on a documentary about the abstract painter Mary Heilmann and has recently completed work on a feature film script titled This Is Nowhere.
The University of Massachusetts Boston Film Series is an initiative of the Chancellor's Office. This monthly series, which is free and open to the public, showcases innovative and thought-provoking filmmakers and their work.
