Musician and Author, Albert “Prodigy” Johnson and Co-Author Kathy Landoli together with Harvard University’s Hiphop
Archive Director Marcyliena Morgan and Award Winning Chef Jody Adams host a powerful discussion surrounding
ingenuity in healthy eating and the important role food plays in our culture
Albert “Prodigy” Johnson will discuss his experiences in maneuvering healthy eating during a panel discussion hosted by
The Hiphop Archive Research Institute at Harvard University. Johnson’s cookbook “Commissary Kitchen: My Infamous
Prison Cookbook showcases healthy eating and survival in prison in a whole new context. Written with a great sense of
humor, he writes about having to navigate through his incarceration in finding the means to recreate healthy dishes with
ingenuity in order to tend to his lifelong battle with sickle cell anemia.
Alongside Co-Author Kathy Iandoli, Professor Marcyliena Morgan and Chef Jody Adams, there will be thoughtful dialogue on the importance of how proper nutrition provides sustenance not only physically but emotionally as well. The panel discussion will take place at Harvard University as dorm-room cooking implements can often be comparable to what inmates are allowed. In addition to inventive cooking, the event will also address the important role food plays in building community as well as the emerging movement of part-time veganism in hip-hop culture.
