You told us on social media that all Valentine’s reservations around the city were all booked up, so we rounded up the best restaurants that don’t take reservations. Let the uncertainty of where you’ll end up spice up the night. Most of these spots start serving at 5pm. For the best chance of getting in, we recommend arriving at open. Or live on the edge…you do you.

Lone Star

Where: East Cambridge

Pro tip: Truly the best tacos in the city and one of our favorite restaurants! Get the carnitas or the beef barbacoa taco (fun fact: Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured Lone Star and their beef barbacoa taco in Season 21, Episode 1) and their delicious and very boozy mug-aritas!

Daily Catch

Where: North End

Pro tip: Don’t forget to bring cash with you to this old-school North End favorite. The squid ink pasta makes it all worth the wait.

Bartaco

Where: Seaport

Pro tip: Join the waitlist ahead of time on the Bartaco website and order guac & a marg as soon as you sit down :) (you won’t find a fresher marg anywhere else – at bartaco you literally get a fresh squeezed key lime for any drink)

Highland Kitchen

Where: Somerville

Pro tip: Treat yourself and your date to Highland’s famous spicy jambalaya with homemade cornbread or (in our opinion) the best shrimp and grits in the city.

Dear Annie

Where: Davis Square/Porter Square

Pro tip: Recently named in the New York Times’ “the 50 restaurants we love most in 2022” this one understandably fills up fast. Worth the hype, Dear Annie is a pescatarian’s dream dinner paired with natural wines galore.

Rebel Rebel

Where: Union Square

Pro tip: Grab a glass of natural wine and bites from around Bow Market…we recommend Hot Box for pizza or Bluefin for seafood. This space is cozy and intimate, the perfect lowkey V-Day locale.

Drink

Where: Fort Point

Pro tip: Arrive right at 5p and you’ll have the bartender’s full attention to make you the perfect personalized cocktail. Let them know how sweet, spicy or sour you like your drink, do you like bubbles? More spirit forward? How drunk do you want to get? And then let the Drink team work their magic…

Shays Pub Wine Bar

Where: Harvard Square

Pro tip: This no-frill pub in the heart of Harvard Square has an extensive list of beer and wine. Our favorite thing about Shays? The $8 glasses of wine.
