The Charles River Conservancy (CRC), in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), presents the 7th season of the Sunday Parkland Games. For the first half of the summer, the free games and activities are held in North Point Park in Cambridge. This year, the games will take place Sunday afternoons from 3:30pm to 6pm, starting June 26 through September 25.
The conservancy is partnering with Knucklebones, a local athletic and events company, to provide athletic equipment and instruction for people of all ages and abilities. Games include bocce, beanbag toss, (mini) basketball, badminton, tetherball, hula-hoops, jump ropes, and more. The game equipment is sized for children as young as 3 up to adults. From 5pm to 6pm, Cambridge-based Karma Yoga will conduct one-hour yoga classes.
Since 2009, the Sunday Parkland Games have been a part of the Charles River Conservancy’s efforts to encourage physical activity for children and families, making recreation opportunities easily accessible to urban residents. Other current Conservancy programs include enlisting 2,000 volunteers a year to help beautify and steward the parklands, building bridge underpasses for improved pedestrian and cycling access along the river pathway, working to bring back swimming to the Charles River, and developed a skate park at North Point in Cambridge.
