Major League Quidditch is coming to Brookline, Mass. on Saturday, July 30.
The Boston Night Riders are hosting a three game series against the Washington Admirals at Harry Downes Field from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Quidditch is a co-ed, contact sport played on college campuses and in communities around the world. Ten years ago, the rules were adapted from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series, incorporating elements of basketball, rugby and dodgeball.
Today, quidditch is on its way to becoming a professional sport. Major League Quidditch, a national league that runs from June 1 to August 31, was formed in 2015. The league features sixteen teams from the United States and Canada—including the Boston Night Riders, named after the famous midnight ride of Paul Revere. After an undefeated regular season, Boston defeated the New York Titans last summer to win the first ever league championship in Toledo, Ohio.
The Night Riders are one of the favorites to win a second consecutive title at the 2016 MLQ Championship in League City, Texas on Aug. 20-21.
Heading into the final series of the regular season, Boston sits atop the East Division with an undefeated 6-0 record. Washington holds second place in the East with a 4-2 record.
