Join curator Jasper A. Sanchez for a tour of the Boston Public Art Triennial’s Lot Lab, an outdoor experimentation zone for site-specific contemporary public art created for the Charlestown community in partnership with the National Park Service. This year’s iteration, Presence, features work by Ifé Franklin, Matthew Okazaki, and Hugh Hayden. Visitors will hear from Sanchez about the art and community collaborations and have the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming Rose Art Museum exhibition Hugh Hayden: Home Work, opening September 18, 2024.
Attendees will convene in the Charlestown Navy Yard at 5th Street and 1st Avenue. The tour is weather-permitting and capped at 25 attendees.
ABOUT THE CURATOR
Jasper A Sanchez (he/they) is a curator and cultural organizer based in Boston, MA. A Venezuelan-Colombian raised in Miami, FL, immersion in transnational art since their youth inspired them to focus their studies on topics ranging from queer diaspora to public art. Sanchez has curated exhibitions with the Boston LGBTQIA+ Artist Alliance, Boston Center for the Arts, and Tufts University Art Galleries; while their writing and programming has been featured by the Boston Art Review. As Assistant Curator for the Boston Public Art Triennial, Sanchez's responsibilities include the yearly curation of Lot Lab, an exploration zone for site-specific contemporary public art co-created with community, and the facilitation of the Public Art Accelerator, a skill-building and grant-funding program designed to support early-to-mid-career Boston-based artists in creating temporary public art projects in one of Boston neighborhoods. Beyond his role with the Triennial, he is part of Mobius Artists’ Collective and the inaugural Collective Futures Fund Advisory Council. Sanchez holds a BA in Art History & Critical Theory from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
