Ever wanted to know what the birds are that you hear around your home and local travels? This class will give you the tools to be able to do just that. We'll be reviewing local species, and use some graphic illustrations and mnemonics to help remember the sounds. We'll also examine why birds use songs and understand the differences between contact calls, alarm calls, songs, and flight calls. It's a lot more intricate than you might imagine, and this class will hopefully open your eyes and ears to what's around you. The course is two-afternoon Zoom meetings and a morning spent birding at Mount Auburn Cemetery (or other local birding hotspot depending on possible Covid-related closures) where we’ll practice our new skills. Instructor: Neil Hayward
Online: Monday, May 15, and Thursday, May 18, 5:30-7:30 pm
In-person Field Trip: Saturday, 6:30-9:30 am May 20
