Collaborative artists Carolyn Lewenberg and Veronica Robles' Dancing Elotes traditional bike cart will be at East Boston Farmer's Market Wednesday afternoons July through November, serving traditional Mexican street corn, elotes. As both a literal and conceptual vehicle for cross-cultural culinary, dance, and sculptural experiences, participants will learn La Danza del Permiso (to request permission from mother earth to work the soil) and use the husks and cobs from the elotes to create a large-scale sculpture of traditional Latino dancers. Culminating in the installation of the sculpture and performance of the dance in observance of the Day of the Dead, Dancing Elotes will honor the lives of the young victims of street violence. Wednesdays, 3:30-6:30pm (July through November 4) at East Boston Farmer's Market, Lewis Mall behind Maverick MBTA station. Creative City grants bring arts of all disciplines to all neighborhoods of Boston and are funded by the Barr Foundation. For more information visit www.nefa.org/creative-city-projects.
