On Saturday, May 9th, ferries to the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park start running again after a long, snowy, winter slumber. To celebrate, the Boston Harbor Island Alliance, in partnership with the National Park Service and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, is offering FREE FERRY TICKETS for May 9th! Visitors will be able to enjoy a FREE trip to Georges Island, with ferries departing Long Wharf North in Boston every hour, on the hour, beginning at 10am.
The 39-acre Georges Island has something for everyone. Home to the Civil War-era Fort Warren, the granite archways, narrow hallways, and nooks and crannies of the castle-like structure are fascinating for little explorers, history buffs, and anyone who enjoys a good ghost story. The large, grassy picnic areas with beautiful ocean and city views are the perfect place to bring lunch, barbecue on the charcoal grills, or enjoy a delicious snack from the concessions by Rita’s Catering.
Free ferry tickets are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and are available starting at 9am at the Boston Harbor Cruises Ferry Center at Long Wharf North. No advance reservations are taken, and a return time is assigned when tickets are issued.
